There’s a lot to be said for pulling into a barrel you know you’re not making it out of. Too often these days the focus is on the exit instead of the vision, and while the exit is pretty dang great, the vision is what we’re all chasing. The exit is for glory. The barrel is for you. And you don’t really need an actual surfboard to get the vision — you don’t need anything at all, in fact — but a little bit of something goes a long way, especially when you’re womping into tubes. A slipper. A lunch tray. Anything that floats and has room for your hand. Jamie O’Brien’s weapon of choice is the Catch Surf Womper, and by the looks of things, they work pretty well.
