Everyone likes a good party wave, unless it’s the kind where a stranger burns you and then yells “party wave!” over their shoulder. But a real party wave is one of surfing’s greatest joys. That’s why Red Bull created an entire event surrounding them called, fittingly, Red Bull Party Wave. On August 25, the caffeinated bull held the fifth annual at Waikiki, a place where party waves, both wanted and unwanted, are part and parcel of the surfing experience.
Teams create huge surf crafts, perform a skit on the beach, and then paddle out together to see what they can ride. This year, Jamie O’Brien’s team took the win with an enormous raft and a skit involving Poopies and very creepy pig mask.
