The Inertia

First Point Malibu is a lot of things. When it’s on, it’s arguably one of the best waves in California – world class. It’s also a place where the unwritten rules of lineup etiquette have largely gone out the window. On a chest high day, Malibu is a microcosm of the surf world at large. An exact picture on a smaller scale. All manner of surf craft float in the lineup from thrusters to single fin logs to Wavestorms. And all skill levels, too. From the high performance-minded warrior to the beginner and everything in between.

Surfing there tests one’s ability to tolerate the absurd, and yet, for traditional longboarders, the Malibu idyll still exists when you luck into one from the top of the point and slide down the line uninterrupted.

In the summer months, the world’s best longboarders often make the pilgrimage to the wall and during a recent run of swell, it was no different. Jack Coleman turned up to document, and the result is the video above that makes the place look absolutely dreamy. Click over to about: 30 for a rad little party wave with Joel Tudor and Jared Mell. It might just inspire you to take the next time you get burned as an opportunity. Or not. Who knows?
