John John Florence and Tyler Wright have been nominated for ESPYs, and they need your votes. They’re on the list for Best Male and Female Action Sports Athletes.
It’s not the first time a surfer has been on the list. Back in 2014, Carissa Moore and Twiggy were up for Best Male/Female Action Sports Athlete. Bethany Hamilton won an ESPY in 2004 for Best Comeback Athlete, and last year she turned down a nomination for Best Female Athlete With a Disability. Stephanie Gilmore has two, and Maya Gabeira and Sofia Mulanovich are both winners as well. Although male surfers have been nominated a few times, they’ve never won.
This is the 25th year of The ESPY Awards, and everyone who’s everyone in the world of sports has one. LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Serena Williams, Peyton Manning, Ronda Rousey, Floyd Mayweather–it’s a distinguished list to be a part of.
