Since well before the conclusion of the 2018 WSL Championship Tour, a question’s loomed large among surf fans: How’s John John’s knee?

Florence’s camp tends to play everything close to the chest, so updates have come through in drips and drabs – namely a Gold Coast sighting here, and a clip with a bionic knee brace posted by Florence himself there.

But with the first event of the 2019 season within striking distance, the logical extension of the question above is: Will Florence be ready to compete come Snapper?

An answer to that question appears to be in the clip Florence posted to Instagram on Tuesday sans brace where flexibility appears to be a non-issue. The two-time world champ stops short of saying we’ll definitely see his name in the heat draw, but he does shed insight on a concerted effort between he and coach Ross Williams to get back in fighting shape.

“It was so cool going to the Surf Ranch and back to the basics. Working on specific turns, placement and stance with @rosswilliamshawaii,” he said. “Getting instant feedback and having repetition is so helpful. It’s crazy how much you can get done in such a short amount of time. Thank you @kswaveco for having me, looking forward to going back!”
