Jon Gubbins has been called the most-barreled person in the world by more than a few people. He spends so much time in the tube, in fact, that it might not even be hyperbolic to say that. He parks himself inside tubes all over the planet, from Teahupoo to Skeleton Bay, but this year has been a little different. This year, travel has been a bit of a hassle. So this year, Gubbins had to make do with Peru. And on September 28, Peru produced a secret, fickle sandbar that looks a lot like Skeleton Bay.
It was the strongest southwest swell that hit Peru all season, and Gubbins made sure he’d be there for the best part of it. The entire video you see above was filmed over the course of two hours in the morning. Gubbins, along with filmer Kirfa Lens, camped overnight to make sure they were on it, and it was well worth the wait.
