The Inertia

Nazaré is a very, very large wave. Whether or not you agree that it’s a “real wave” or not, there’s no denying that it’s a gigantic lump of water, incredibly dangerous, and a pretty incredible accomplishment. The water there moves faster than most other places on the planet, and the weight of it feels more like wet cement than anything else.

Hawaii’s Keali’i Mamala took a few seconds to whip into a windy, massive face at Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal, on November 29th. The result is a few seconds of sheer ridiculousness and an entry in the Billabong Ride of the Year awards.
