You know that friend you have where your whole relationship consists almost entirely of making digs at one another? Those relationships are fun, especially when they’re tinged with a bit of honest-to-goodness animosity. Kelly Slater and Sunny Garcia, two titans of surfing, have a long history. That history, of course, includes many a contest where one of the two was beating the other one.
No one gets to the top of a podium if they don’t have a bit of competitive fire running through their veins, and Slater and Garcia aren’t any different. Slater recently threw a short clip up on Instagram that goes way back in time. “Sunny Garcia and I have been talking shit to each other since probably 1987,” he wrote, “but this piece from ‘93 is pretty good! Haha. You’re supposed to leave it in the water but we clearly didn’t get the memo.”
