It’s not easy to get Kelly Slater on the horn for an interview. He’s a busy guy, as you probably guessed, so nailing him down to sit (or in this case, stand) for a solid chunk of time is a real get. The Grin Reapers, a weekly podcast consisting of Chris White, a.k.a. Whitey, and Brian Shields, a.k.a Buddah, managed to shoot the breeze with him in the parking lot for The Box during the Margaret River event.
They talked about a variety of things, all in classic Grin Reaper fashion, from near death experiences to World Titles and retirement plans and how psychologists have helped him. Doing an interview from a parking lot might seem a little odd, but in this case it’s reminiscent of a conversation you’d have after a surf anywhere in the world — and we’ve got to say, we like the format.
