The Inertia

When you’re a professional surfer, a lot of doors open for you. Traveling the world, getting showered in gear from sponsors, competing against the best surfers in the world, its all on the menu if you can just shred hard enough. However, for Koa Rothman, the door to having his own board model was firmly held shut until he managed to pry it out of Jon Pyzel’s unwilling hands.

“The Breadstick from Pyzel is a real thing,” Rothman tells the camera with giddy enthusiasm in his latest video. “This is all because you guys kept writing him and going out and bugging him to make it, because he was sick of listening to me.” After what appears to be years of badgering, Pyzel has agreed to produce a limited run of 20 of Koa’s board, which is being sold through Rothman’s own site.

Later on, Jon Pyzel stops by to begrudgingly watch Koa set one of them up. “This is the perfect example of ‘Never give up on your dreams'” says Rothman as Pyzel glowers behind him. “But I had to give up on my dreams for you to achieve yours,” Jon replies.

Here’s to opening new doors, no matter how much it annoys Jon Pyzel.
