Few people in the world know Pipeline as well as Koa Smith. That’s why, when you get the chance to go on a guided tour from his point of view, you take it. The latest one comes courtesy of a video on the Oahu surfer’s YouTube channel. In it, Koa goes exploring Pipe’s second reef.
“Unlike the first reef of Pipeline, second reef lets you roll into bigger waves with a bit more ease until the 3rd reef sets start rolling through, catching everyone in the wave impact zone and washing everyone out in seconds,” explained Smith in the caption. “It’s a gamble, but if you time it right, you can score the wave of a lifetime. Dodging huge sets, chasing the wave of your life, and getting absolutely worked. Even saw a barracuda trying to escape a dolphin. Pipeline is unpredictable, powerful, and insanely beautiful, but that’s exactly why we love it.”
