The Inertia

Not many people have ever actually been at a point in their life when they say to themselves, “well, this is how I die.” But Laird Hamilton has—many times.

Not many people live the way Laird does, though. He’s been pushing his limits for decades, so it’s only natural that he’s looked death in the face. “I mean, that’s just part of my make-up,” he told The Inertia. It’s not really a conscious thing; it’s more about what interests me and where I end up. I wouldn’t say it’s so calculated that I’m out there trying to make a point. It’s more the result of pursuing the things that I like.”

In a sit-down interview with Graham Bensinger, Laird talks about a few instances where he thought he had come to the end of the road.
