To anybody young enough to not understand how truly awesome the early 1990s were, here’s a little perspective: both Shane Dorian and Kelly Slater had hair. It was a good time. Do you need more? Surfboards were longer and they were more narrow and their rails were thinner and…well, wait, ok if you jumped on a shortboard from that era now you wouldn’t think life was actually all that great. But guys like Shane Dorian made it look amazing anyway.
As you probably know, we all owe the recent communal flood of nostalgia to Taylor Steele and the popularity of his Momentum films–which inspired HBO’s recently-released Momentum Generation documentary. Steele is obviously well aware of the news cycle, and he’s feeding the froth with his Momentum Files YouTube page like we’re all addicts desperate for a fix. And he holds the keys to what the people want: years of backlogged footage featuring all the greatest from that decade.
