It’s been a fun two weeks (minus this half week of lay days) watching the Tour takeover Lowers. It’s a collection of the best surfers in the world on one of the most fun waves in the world. We get plenty of heavy spots like Teahupo’o in the middle of summer and closing it all out with Pipe, so throwing a groomed little skatepark wave into the middle of it is refreshing. And if you’re in Southern California and have made the trek to Trestles, either to surf or watch the contest, you’ve been treated to plenty of run ins with recognizable surfers.
Those sessions are the best to watch. The free surfs, where a guy like Mick isn’t holding back. The top 34 are all still hard at work but boy is it a treat to watch them let loose at Lowers.
