Jaws is not a wave you want to screw up on. A fall there will result on one of the worst beatings of your life, a fact that many can attest to. Lucas Chumbinho, an incredible big wave surfer from Brazil, knows that falling SUCKS, and back in February, he did everything in his power not to.
“Everything in his power” included, in the words of the WSL “a spectacular backside bottom flop and side-mounted cockroach with perfect recovery.” While this particular wave (although certainly nothing to scoff at) might not be gigantic, it’s an entry in a yet-to-be-determined special category of the 2016 WSL Big Wave Awards.
