Remember when the term “Brazilian Storm” was thrown around like a baseball at the All-Star Game? Since then, the storm has settled into a stiff, constant breeze.
Talent is flowing out of Brazil at an incredible rate. Since Gabriel won the world title and shut everyone up about his skill in waves of consequence, Brazilian surfers have proven that they’re not just aerial wizards. Adriano showed what the power of hard work can do, Filipe showed just how important a small wave game really is (and barreled his way to the quarters at the 2014 Pipe Masters), Silvana Lima’s skill was only questioned by sponsors, and we’d be remiss to forget about Flavio Padaratz and Fabio Gouveia. So who’s at the top of Brazil’s overflowing bucket of new talent? Well, Lucas Vicente is surely up there. Need proof? Look no further than his 2016/17 season on the North Shore.
