Surfboards of the flatter, twinnier variety often get thrown into the groveler pile. Good surfboards when the waves are gutless (think summertime in SoCal) until there’s enough behind a wave to step on a proper thruster and rip vertical turn after vertical turn or post up in the tube.
That association, though, is an unfortunate one. Where wide, flat twin fins really shine is in overhead (but not quite throttling) hollow stuff. The kind where speed is the name of the game.
Case in point: Luke Hynd’s recent curly-headed jaunt through Indonesia, for as we’ve affectionately dubbed it for this little edit, Twindo.
Hynd may step on a traditional thruster here and there, but make no mistake, his approach on a twin looks far more enjoyable.
