The Inertia

A place that looked perfectly normal… until everyone showed up. Sunday, July 19th, 2026 was unlike any day I’ve ever seen at Malibu. The waves were good. Really good. And apparently, everyone in Southern California got the same idea.

What followed was one of the most crowded surf sessions I’ve ever witnessed — surfers everywhere, waves packed with people, personal space disappearing, and normal surf etiquette becoming… somewhat negotiable.

Welcome to the Malibu Zone. A strange little corner of the Pacific where hundreds of surfers gather for the same waves, all convinced that their wave is the one worth fighting for. This is the story of the craziest crowd I’ve ever seen at Malibu.
