The Inertia

California has been crazy this week. The massive south swell that recently lit up Hawaii has finally hit the West Coast. It’s a run of waves that very well could go down in surfing history.

Right now, the Wedge is at the the center of it all. The nearly un-surfable mutant slab instantly went gigantic and a host of influencers and freesurfers were there to document the madness. Unsurprisingly, footage from the mutant beachbreak has been brutal and awe-inspiring, even for the Wedge.

However, the Wedge isn’t the only iconic break in Southern California. Nor is it the only place that caught a piece of the action. Surf YouTuber Meek Surf just reported back from Malibu and the results were… very classic Malibu.

While the venerable spot can get legitimately massive under the right conditions, the only thing massive about it this time was the crowd. Still, Meek toughed his way through a cascade of drop-ins for some waist high peelers – all to be able to say he surfed the swell of the decade.

His conclusion? “Wow, that was quite the experience and not one I ever want to have again.”
