The Inertia

This week was an interesting one at California’s South Carlsbad State Beach. A man in San Diego County, who sounded like he might have had one libation too many–as media suggested, below–decided it was a good idea to try and land his boat on the beach.

For hours, authorities attempted to get the boat’s captain off the stranded vessel after he had initially called Coast Guard for help then changed his mind. The craft became hung up in the rocks and he wasn’t leaving, using a number of threats to stay onboard and keep authorities off, including “suing the feds.” The man finally relented around 3 a.m. after the boat took a pummeling from incoming swell that he thought may have broken his ribs (or possibly intensified the hangover). The conversation at the 50-second mark, above, is one of the more hilarious things you’ll hear today: “I’m comfortable in my bed, I’m going to bed, good night,” he mumbles.

The beached boat happened to be banked right near the home of one Josh Kerr, who had some fun with the mess that kept most of his neighborhood awake all night as helicopters buzzed overhead, shining lights to help authorities with the situation: “Thanks for giving us the excuse to name the no-name break out front, “Tequila Wrecks,” from now on.”
