The Inertia

Heavy rains inundated Southern California over the holiday weekend. As often happens when any amount of adverse weather hits the typically temperate region, everyone loses it. Streets flooded, people forgot how to drive, and at least one guy went sidewalk surfing in Long Beach.

The stunt was seen in a (rather short) video posted to social media. In it, Long Beach local Hayden De Leon rides atop a Wavestorm (of course it’s  a Wavestorm), holding a rope tied to an SUV. For about three glorious seconds, we share his joy at living the dream of surfing at four miles an hour through dirt and raw sewage.

“I told my brother, ‘Dude, put that truck in first gear, let’s go,’” De Leon told NBCLA. He added that, for at least part of the stunt, he was wearing a helmet.

Though the rains have paused for now, meteorologists say that another storm is heading for the area Thursday. So be on the lookout for an expansion of the asphalt lineup.
