The Inertia

When most surfers might be clinging to their boards for dear life, Mason Ho feels right at home. The Hawaiian is so comfortable in the life-threatening conditions on his native island of Oahu that he often appears to be having a laugh. This new clip from Sunset Beach proves that point. One-footed floaters. Close-out death barrels. Rail-grab roundhouses. Mason’s coy playfulness in large, unruly Sunset makes it look like he’s surfing a small day out at Ehukai Beach Park. And the clip also features Mason charging out at Chopes (which he only recently surfed for the first time) with the same cool demeanor. He’s totally unfazed as he takes some beatings and also gets slotted and spit out of a few bombs. The world needs more surfers with Mason’s fearlessness and reckless abandon.
