Few surfers have the animated carelessness of Mason Ho. When he’s on a wave, he takes himself less seriously than others; he has more fun. And because of that, he has always been one of the most entertaining surfers to watch. He’s unbound by the normal restrictions of surfing, free to approach a wave any way he’d like. Mason also applies his free-wheeling attitude to conditions – in heavy surf, he’s fearless; in small waves, he’s creative. And when he’s surfing small waves, Mason frequents funky, weird spots that most people wouldn’t even dare paddle at out due to the craggily dry reef. Hence the above clip. One false step, and it’s a nasty cut. But for Mason, it’s all just another day on the job.
