Mateus Herdy has signed with Julian Wilson-led brand Rivvia Projects. The newly minted partnership was announced on Instagram, where fellow pro surfers took to the comments to celebrate the recognition of a young talent.
Rivvia Projects is an outdoor lifestyle brand founded by Australian Olympian and World Tour Surfer Julian Wilson in 2022. The brand is the latest in a decade-long surge in surfer-owned brands, including Kelly Slater’s Outerknown, Dane Reynolds’ Former, and John John Florence’s Florence Marine X.
“I’m so so stoked to finally see a VV on the nose of Mateus’ board,” wrote Wilson on Instagram. “He’s been a part of the extended family for a while now, so finally putting ink to paper just feels right. One of the most exciting surfers in the water and an even better human on land. Exciting times ahead.”
Herdy has made a name for himself for both his athletic surfing and aerial prowess, both in and out of competition. As the 24-year-old from Florianópolis, Brazil wrote on Instagram, signing with Wilson also has a special sentimental significance for him.
“If I could go back and tell 12-year-old me watching Scratching the Surface that one day Julian would sponsor me with his own brand… I think I’d lose my mind!” he wrote. “Beyond stoked and honored to be part of Rivvia and to work with Julian Wilson and Ryan Callinan. Life’s pretty unreal sometimes.”
