Sheesh! Maverick’s is one of the most feared big waves in existence, and for good reason. But it’s mostly the right we think about when we conjure imagery of Half Moon Bay’s most ferocious ocean attraction. Here, 22-year-old Brazilian charger Lucas Chianca, known affectionately as “Chumbo,” makes the left look like his plaything. Not that he doesn’t take beatings. But you can tell the goofy-footer is definitely in tune with this piece of ocean, as filmed by Powerlines Productions. Scratch that, kid’s in tune with the ocean in general: he finished second at Nazaré (which he won last year) and seventh at Jaws in this his second season on the Big Wave Tour.
