The Inertia

There are a many surf road trips that could be considered rites of passage, and California’s Highway 1 definitely qualifies. The search for waves with a car full of friends and surfboards is one of the best things that exists in this world, and Mick Fanning is still doing it.

Although he retired from contest surfing, he didn’t retire from surfing. We suspect he never will, either. In Rip Curl’s most recent installment of The Search, Fanning is joined by Conner Coffin and Crosby Colapinto.

The trio headed south from San Francisco down to Southern California, finding waves that got warmer as they went. It’s a wave-heavy stretch of coastline, and they definitely got their fill. You might notice that this version of The Search is a little different than the norm. That wasn’t an accident.

“This episode doesn’t abide by our traditional recipe,” the Rip Curl team wrote. “The crew are very much on the beaten track, gargantuan California landmarks are dotted along the way… but that doesn’t mean they aren’t Searching with a capital S.”
