The Inertia

That. Is. A. Wrap. After five intense days of competition, Mick Fanning has officially been crowned your 2015 Hurley Pro champion. Fanning will now be wearing the gold jersey heading into the European leg.

We can’t say too many great things about the conditions on the final day of the Hurley Pro—especially after seeing how phenomenal things were in the beginning of the contest. But, Lowers is Lowers. Although they were few and far between, Lowers produced a few decent sets, offering up a few great opportunities for world number one and two to duke it out in the explosive final heat.

In the final heat, both competitors stuck to their typical game plan of consistency, flow, and flawless rail game to produce their best. However, it was Fanning who struck first blood. Fanning wasted no time by posting two great scores on two very average waves before throwing down an excellent score of 9.77, leaving de Souza combed for the rest of the heat. With five minutes remaining, de Souza found a promising set wave, laid down several great turns, but even a 9.07 wasn’t enough to take the Brazilian out of combo land.

A huge congratulations to Mick Fanning, your 2015 Hurley Pro at Trestles champ!
