Mick Fanning has always surfed with a heightened sense of intensity and vigor. He surfs every wave like it’s his last. But given this year’s peculiar circumstances, he seems to have gained a little extra pep in his delivery. Perhaps it’s because there’s a lot of eyes on him this year, or maybe it’s because he’s hinting at something else, like a win at this year’s J-Bay Open will be followed by an announcement of retirement. Wouldn’t that be something else? Either way, Mick’s first few heats back at J-Bay is nothing short of mesmerizing.
