The process of this edit happened while we were still over in the Maldives. Chippa gave me the vaguest editing instructions ever: a bit of torn paper with the order of the sessions scribbled on it. Then I chopped up a super rough version while we were still on the boat, and tightened it up while I was on my way to the States via Australia… that is a journey.
Chippa’s surfing inspires me. The dude is really humble and a psycho surfer at the same time. He was my boss in this project, and he was by far the easiest boss-man to work with. That’s a big part of why he’s so inspiring – he’s super cruisey to work with creatively.
I’d love to do another trip with Chip and try and capture more of his personal creative, and even his spiritual side… that sounds weird.
In the end, though, we set out to showcase some gnarly surfing in a setting that hadn’t been shown too much before. I think we accomplished that.
