The Inertia

Most of us have seen fetal development and stages of pregnancy in pictures and videos. It’s something that many mothers do nowadays in order to remember a special time in their lives. But documenting stages of pregnancy while surfing? Now there’s something you don’t see everyday. This is precisely what mother and surfer, Kristi Olivares, did four days a week, through all nine months of her pregnancy.

To many non-surfers, it seems difficult enough to hold your balance on a surfboard while riding a moving wave. Now imagine adding a baby inside your belly to that equation. “I felt like I had to learn to catch waves all over again,” Olivares told TODAY.com. “I believe that he recognizes the sound of the crashing waves and the motion of walking on the sand from when he was in my belly,” she said. “I always got such a sense of calm and happiness from him when he was in my womb when I was out surfing. I could almost picture him smiling as we sailed along the water. He is a true ocean baby!”
