Monyca and I were on a work trip together in Nevada not too long ago when we started talking about and planning for her birthday that was coming up soon. I wanted to surprise her at first but getting to Hana isn’t exactly easy, so I figured telling her I would be there just made more sense. She was pretty excited. She has so many amazing friends at home but she loves to host her off-island friends, plus it’s always a treat to make a trip to Olamana Organics (aka their farm in Hana).
Honestly, Birthdays in Hawaii are amazing. Monz got showered by beautiful handmade Lei’s by her friends, followed by fresh-squeezed juice cocktails to top it off. The day after her birthday celebrations I asked her to go on an adventure with me – we’d be driving to the opposite side of the island to surf Lahaina, a place she’d never surfed despite living on the island.
Now, the two of us are total longboard lovers. We are always hoping to find fun small waves that we can log because most of our time surfing together is spent on shortboards. So we packed our Lei’s (because what’s a better excuse to keep wearing them?), our bikinis a cooler, and headed to the other side of the island.
I honestly love adventures. We so often choose to stay local but getting out to explore something a little different is always a great idea.
