We had been following Hurricane Marie’s swell for several days before it hit, but you can never believe the hype until you see it. Without a doubt, though, it delivered. It was difficult to fight the urge to paddling out ourselves, because we knew how valuable this footage would be. We’re going to Bali for a few weeks soon so it was easier to watch double overhead conditions instead of charging it with the guys we were filming. The energy was good all day – people on land and water were so stoked and everyone was smiling throughout. The decision to stay on the beach and film paid off as we got some of the most incredible surf footage seen ever in California.
