In the filmmaking biz, there’s a term for those in-between moments that break from the action or interview to add color. It’s called B-roll. And typically B-roll is nothing without a subject to inform space and place. Typically. But, in the world of esteemed filmmaker Morgan Maassen, that rule rings less true.
The above is effectively a collection of miscellaneous imagery Maassen’s captured recently balled into a grab bag with no common thread other than the shots are achingly gorgeous. No storyline to speak of. A smattering of the in-between.
Maassen calls it “A sequence of no meaning, a puzzle of vignettes. Like a dream…” and “a compendium of various moments, visions, places, like a dreamscape… but also, simply, a long-form visual odyssey.”
Fair warning: surf and action clips are sparse. But it’s certainly pretty candy for the eyes.
