The Inertia

You remember Mundaka? Arguably Europe’s finest left-hand point break that sits nestled on the coast of the Spanish Basque Country?

Yes, she seemed oh-so relevant in the late 1990s and early 2000s when she was an annual stop on the then ASP World Championship Tour. But then a dredging project messed with the sand – left the crown jewel of the Basque Coast looking like a shell of her former self. It was a tragic fall from grace.

The Tour may have left Mundaka in the dust, but since those years she’s made a full recovery. And much to the delight of local surfers there’s no worry about the circus that is the Championship Tour overcrowding the place every year.

Here are Aritz Aranburu, Natxo Gonzalez, Kepa Acero, and friends relishing in a recent run of swell and demonstrating that yes, Mundaka very much still pumps. It’s so pretty it hurts.
