The Inertia

Skeleton Bay has been going off, and pros have descended on the Nambian break this month. For evidence, look no further than the beginning of the latest video from Nathan Florence, documenting his trip to the land of endless barrels. On the way there, his filmer captures a swarm of surfers basically filling up an entire airplane.

After landing, Nate sees to his still-healing elbow injury, before describing how it’s not just the tubes that make Skeleton Bay a challenge to surf.

“Part of what makes the day so epic here, and what I remember from my last trip, was how much it takes physically to get a full day of surfing at this wave,” said Florence. “You surf and you battle the current and you get the wave and you get worked and you get down to the bottom of the point, and you have to do this eternal walk back up.”

After seemingly endless traveling, the squad finally ends up in the bay to do some surfing, and the wave is every bit as wild as promised. Although seeing all the pros in that lineup makes me wonder if there’s anyone out there surfing in the rest of the world.
