Over the years, Nathan Florence has worked hard to make himself synonymous with slab surfing. He’s been on a never-ending self-proclaimed “Slab Tour” of the world, that has yielded a wild volume of surfing content. With that work has come a hefty amount of recognition, from both fans of his YouTube videos and sponsors. Now he’s landed possibly the biggest sponsorship deal of his career: Red Bull.
“We have attracted the attention of one of the biggest brands in extreme action sports history,” explained Florence in his latest YouTube video. ” I could not be more excited to announce that Red Bull and I have come together. The slab tour just got its wings.”
That’s right, Nathan Florence is now on Team Red Bull. Not only does the move promise a paycheck for Florence, but also the possibility of expanding the scope of his surfing content. “I could not be more excited for this partnership. Red Bull is known for making big ideas turn into reality in sports,” said Florence.
It seems like there may already be some plans in the works, too. “We’ve already got some big projects cooking up,” he added. ”The slab tour will continue, but now with some wings.”
It’s only been a little over a year since Florence left Vans, his sponsor of 20 years, to sign on with Florence Marine, the company founded by his brother and three-time WSL World Champion John John Florence. “I had a decision to make,” said Nathan at the time. “It came down to ‘take the short-term thinking deal, the now deal, with Vans, or bet on the long term and bet on myself, surf under my own name, build a company with my brother.’” In the end, he went with the family name.”
