When Tropical Storm Iselle‘s swell arrived on the Southern California coast, it did good things. Good things to a lot of places, but one place in particular is a little more on the south swell radar than most: Newport Beach.
“Newport Beach doesn’t see days like this very often,” wrote resident Newps filmer Brad Jacobson. “A powerful swell generated by Tropical Storm Iselle sent Southern California surf into overdrive, and Newport Beach was absolutely firing.”
For a few short and sweet hours, Newport looked… well, it didn’t look like Newport. “It looked more like something you’d expect to see thousands of miles away,” Jacobson continued. “Not every barrel had an exit. Some offered a way in… but not a way out.”
But as anyone who has surfed waves like this knows, the way out is just the cherry on top. The vision is the cake, and Iselle gave Newport surfers plenty of them.
