Nic Von Rupp is dangerously addicted to Pipeline. To such a great degree that he never visited any other island in Hawaii. I mean, who could blame him, right? The North Shore is the cat’s pajamas. “Backdoor is so addictive,” Von Rupp explained. “Wanting that one perfect wave keeps you waking up every single morning at 6 a.m. trying to be the first one in the water, battling it out with the other guys. You get one, but you’re not satisfied with one. You want more, and more, and more… It’s pretty crazy if you think about it.”
Two Islands begins by exploring the busy and active nature of the North Shore by providing Nic’s view on the challenges of surfing Pipeline. Several gaping tubes and a few angry locals later, Nic decides to jump on a plane to pay a visit to his friend Albee Layer in Maui. And boy was he glad he did. To say these boys got great waves would be a towering understatement. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the second volume in the new “My Road Series.”
