The Inertia

The Coronavirus swept the globe. Thankfully, the restrictions put in place worked in the places that adhered to them. Social distancing is still recommended, though, but some places, especially in the United States, seem to have breezed past the warnings. “It’s not clear how long such measures need to be in place to see a lasting effect,” wrote NPR on June 3. “In Wuhan, the city in China where the virus originated, a strictly enforced lockdown and widespread testing have slowed the outbreak dramatically, enough to bring an end to the 76-day lockdown.”

Outside the U.S., though, places like Portugal stuck to a strict lockdown for two months. And now, after all that hard work, the residents’ selfless labor is bearing fruit. “We’ve just been stuck at home for the last two months. I never thought I would end up having my winter without being able to chase a swell. Quarantine got us. Coronavirus is around, and we’ve got to be able to adapt.”

Nic von Rupp and his friends poked their heads out into the fresh air to get some barrels, hang out, and paint a few surfboards in the latest episode of Von Froth. And, as Nic says, “the good times are back.”
