The Inertia

The Nazaré Challenge came back to Nazaré, and it came back in a very real way. It was absolutely huge, which is exactly what everyone hoped it would be. One of the people hoping probably a little harder than the rest is Nic von Rupp.

He’s a guy who loves loves loves surfing enormous waves — although really, any wave will suffice just so long as it gets his heart beating — so he was over the moon when the forecast made it apparent that Portugal’s largest moving mountain would well and truly be working. “I’m super stoked to have shared this day with Pedro Scooby,” he wrote. “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to have my back this day. What a performance!”

While most people interested have already seen footage from the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge, what we haven’t seen is what it looked like the day after. The size dropped a bit, but it was still in the 20-foot range. Which, according to von Rupp, is “ideal to paddle.”
