I recently returned home from Hawaii, where I was filming Flynn Novak’s part for our upcoming movie, Death 2 Hipsters. Since my return, I really wanted to capture some real dirty heaving frigid barrels for the movie. Rob Kelly hit me up one day during the middle of huge north eastern storm. It was literally freezing out, the wind was mixed with rain and snow, the water must have been in the low 30s, the air was about 17 degrees. We both were laughing because we knew we were gonna get drilled either way, the conditions were just so crazy.

Anyway, after an hour of just swimming around not seeing any waves worth filming, this random wave just came out of nowhere and we just so happened to be in the right position. It was weird, because I remember both of us praying for something to be thrown our way, and shortly after, our prayers were answered. This thing basically sucked so hard that keeping your position either swimming or surfing was impossible. In the end, we both got eaten and it happened so fast. I will always have a great memory of that mutant wave that someone up above sent us, and I’m grateful I got to capture it with my buddy Rob.
