Living in Orange County has forced me to take photos of boring landscapes and the same ol’ surf spots, which, in turn, has challenged me to work with more interesting lighting and photo editing techniques. Whether we like it or not, a lot of the photos we see today are highly manipulated. And in order capture someone’s attention you have to work harder than everyone else. My photography for this feature shows the use of lighting and editing to give the viewer a sense of emotion. Most of the shots were shot in Orange County with different perspectives and lighting situations.
I really enjoy dark, saturated images along with black and whites. Morgan Maassen gives me inspiration for edits and composition. Cole Barash (coming from the snowboard industry) inspires the lifestyle and story telling aspects of photography. At the end of the day, that’s all photographers do – push a button and tell a story.
