You know what’s the worst? Being on a trip somewhere, then blowing your surf session because you don’t have the internet and don’t know when the tide’s going to be right. You show up covered in zinc after spending a restless night spent in anticipation of the day ahead, then look out to see fat, slopey waves breaking over a reef that’s sitting under way too much water.
Casio’s got your back, though – they just came out with a new version of the G-Shock called G-Lide, and it is a surfer’s dream watch. It’s smaller than the original G-Shock series (thank God), and is made exclusively for surfing. It’s pretty simple – which is nice, considering a lot of other ones have a million different graphs, none of which mean very much to the layperson. But the G-Lide’s tidal and lunar charts are easy to read: there’s a little symbol of the moon and a little symbol of the tide, instead of a bunch of numbers that look like the matrix. Check the tide by checking your wrist. It’s as easy as that.
And if it’s functions you’re after, the G-Lide has more than you will probably ever need, all packaged into a tidy little bundle that sits on your wrist telling you pretty much everything you need to know except how to actually surf.
