Luke Cederman‘s Raglan Surf Report has just released his latest shot over the bow of surfing culture, this time aimed at longboarders. In “Soulful Longboarder,” Cederman parodies the affectedly laid-back exterior of many longboarding soul surfers, compared to the actual behavior you’re more likely to see in a lineup.
“To me, surfing is far more than just a lifestyle, it’s how I live my life. Now that I ride a longboard, I live my life better than everyone else, because I can catch more waves,” says Cederman in voice over. The grandiose and condescending tone of the narration is then periodically broken by Cederman’s character acting decidedly un-chill, like yelling about a pee-soaked wetsuit and complaining about a grom daring to catch one of “his” waves on a shortboard.
He also launches a quick barb at leash-averse longboarders. “It’s a way to find peace and solace in the absolute freedom of being untethered,” says Cederman, followed by the cameraman admonishing him that, while you may not need a leash to ride a longboard, you probably want one if you aren’t interested in killing random strangers.
