The Inertia

Reubyn Ash is one of the most technical surfers to come out of Europe. Guy’s been surfing since he was in diapers, so it makes sense. “I started surfing when I was in nappies,” he says. “My whole family surf and my dad used to take me out when I was a toddler. He used to put a leash around his waist and stick me on his back, paddle into waves himself and then take me off his back and put me on the front of the surfboard. I was catching by myself by the time I was three.”

By the time he reached the ripe old age of 18, he had 10 British titles under his belt, along with a host of other accolades. But when he was sitting in the contests, he had his mind on aerials, which, at the time, weren’t much of a thing. And it shows. Reubyn’s latest edit from Indonesia is full of airs. And barrels, of course. It is Indo, after all.
