Unless you know Russell Bierke, you don’t know any teenagers like Russell Bierke. Not yet 20 years old, Bierke is already one of the best in waves of serious consequence.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Bierke was basically born into it. His father, Kirk Bierke, is a very well respected big wave surfer and shaper. As Russell grew up on the southern coast of Australia in a town called Ulladulla, he learned to be comfortable in bigger and bigger waves. Deep water bombies became his playground, which eventually led to that horror movie of a wave, Shipstern Bluff. Now, of course, Russell has staked his claim as one of the best in one of the world’s scariest lineups… and his future might just pave the next stretch of the big wave road.
