The Inertia

The alarm sounded at Fish Hoek Beach in Cape Town, South Africa and people definitely listened. This video, captioned Friday the 13th on Facebook (ironically), shows people sprinting from the water as a shark is spotted just off the beach.

According to reports, the fish was apparently a Bronze Whaler, also known as a copper shark, as identified by shark spotters that work the beach. The day before there were reportedly two similar sharks spotted in the same area and shark nets were deployed to protect beachgoers. Copper sharks can grow up to 11 feet and aren’t known to be aggressive towards humans unless there’s a food source in the area (like most sharks, right?). South Africa has dealt with shark issues in recent years, the most famous of which might have been Mick Fanning’s famous run-in with a shark during the J-Bay event in 2015.
