There’s nothing quite as bone-chilling as seeing a fin cut its way through a surf lineup. Sure, by now we’ve all heard about how sharks aren’t as hostile as the movie Jaws would have us think, and that most shark “attacks” are a case of mistaken identity. But it’s still scary as hell to think that a carnivorous torpedo might be right next to you.
On the other hand, sometimes it’s just a dolphin, a lesson that a handful of San Clemente surfers recently learned the hard way.
The moment comes courtesy of surf videography channel Beefs. The prolific outlet is mostly known as a mainstay for Southern California surf edits, but took a break from its regularly scheduled programming of Wedge madness, RC Surfer edits, and Palm Springs Surf Club visits. Instead, it turned to the humble Surfline cam, with a clip of the aforementioned animal causing absolute chaos in San Clemente.
“When you pull up Surfline cam and see this!” reads the caption, underneath a short clip of a dolphin making a sudden and chaotic cameo in the lineup, followed by the surrounding surfers losing their minds paddling as fast as they humanly can.
Better safe than sorry, I guess.
