The Inertia

If you thought an electric “jet surfboard” was dumb, wait until you hear about this: The Sickos, a Hood River, Oregon-based vlog team, got their hands on a vintage, gas-powered surfboard.

It was only a few short years ago that the YouTube stunt collective acquired an electric surfboard. After test riding the insane-looking contraption in flat water, they took the thing out in the surf…and actually had a surprising amount of success.

Apparently that just whetted their appetite for powered waves. And potential injury. Because the latest video posted to their YouTube channel starts with the gang loading what appears to be the top half of a jet ski into a van. “We are holding one of the rarest surfboards in the world,” explains one Sicko. “It is called the Surf Jet, and it was only made in the 1980s. It’s basically a motorcycle inside of a surfboard.”

Powered by a 255cc, two-stroke engine and sporting razor-sharp metal fins, for some reason, the Surf Jet is equal parts personal watercraft and killing machine. That didn’t stop the gang from taking it out for a spin, though. Check out how the whole thing went down, below.
