An inordinate amount of surf culture is centered around scolding people for breaking “surf etiquette.” Lineups enforce manners more strictly than Emily Post, with corrective measures that range from dirty looks to on-shore beatdowns.
However, there’s at least one day out of the year where all the rules go out the window. Slamarack is an annual surf event that goes down at Tamarack State Beach in Carlsbad, California. There, hundreds of surfers gather for a celebration of chaos, where everyone on a board goes for every single wave, and drop-ins are encouraged, not frowned upon.
Southern California-based surf videographer Brent Weldon was there for the 2025 event, which he portrayed in all its glorious anarchy in a recent YouTube edit.
“Slamarack 2025 was pure surf chaos,” wrote Weldon in the caption. “Tamarack Beach in Carlsbad, turned into a wild mix of epic rides, heavy wipeouts, and non-stop beach energy. From fearless surfers charging straight into the break to total carnage in the shorepound, every moment was bigger, louder, and more unpredictable than the last.
This wasn’t your average surf day — it was surf mayhem on another level. Huge crowds packed the sand, cheering and gasping as riders got launched, boards flew, and waves closed out with bone-rattling force. Whether you’re here for the insane rides, the brutal wipeouts, or just the pure vibe of a California surf festival, this highlight reel has it all.”
